Artist BIo

Cooper Keene

Hello!
I am Cooper Keene, an artist based in Bridgton, Maine (USA). I graduated from the University of Maine where I earned a Bachelors in studio art with a minor in graphic design, though was drawn greatly to painting and intaglio printmaking.
My work is deeply rooted in my experience growing up in rural Maine and my relationships with my family and our history rural spaces. In my artwork I often find myself depicting the rurality I am often surrounded by. Whether it's the nuances of abandonment and melancholy, or the landscapes, I look to explore what these places are and once were. In doing so, I aim to understand the passage of time in regards to the human experience, taking into account what memories these places hold.
Beyond my artwork, my goal is to make rural based, outsider artwork more accessible and making opportunity to artists of all facets. Expanding fine artwork outside of galleries and into the hands of the viewer through my STAX Zine publication.
